In 2022, the 4th of July falls on a Monday, and most public and private offices are closed while many retail businesses are open.

Monday, July 4, 2022 is a federal holiday and most non-commercial businesses will be closed for Independence Day.
Garbage and recycling collection (this is a “B” week), week “B” recycling and yard waste, metal and bulky items collections will be delayed by one day for all week, starting Monday, July 4. Monday collections will be on Tuesday, Tuesday will be Wednesday, etc. Visit the website www.painesinc.com or call Paine’s, Inc. at 860-844-3000 with questions.
Also in recognition of the July 4 holiday, City Hall and other municipal offices, recycling center, community center, senior centers and libraries will be closed on Monday, July 4. Municipal camps will also not operate on Mondays.
Will also be closed on Monday:
- State offices
- DMV
- Most banks
- Financial markets
- State courts
- Federal offices
- United States Post Office
The following will be open on Thursdays, but may have specific opening hours:
- Many retail outlets including Westfarms but advised to check ahead
- Most pharmacies
- Most liquor stores
- Most supermarkets
- West Hartford’s public pools at Beachland, Fernridge and Kennedy parks will be open Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wading pools are open at Beachland, Kennedy and Wolcott parks, but the Fernridge Park wading pool remains closed for repairs.
- National and municipal parks
- Beaches
