Bellingham waste and recycling hauler, Sanitary Service Co., is considering switching to single-bin recycling in an effort to get more people to stop throwing away items that could be reused.

SSC will outline its single-stream recycling program at a city council meeting on Monday, January 10.

“A one-stream recycling pilot project requires planning between SPC and its material handling partners, procurement of equipment, public awareness and coordination with government agencies and local non-profit organizations,” said Eric Johnston, director of the public works department, in a note to council.

Johnston said SSC is ready to offer single bin recycling on a trial basis, Johnston said.
