A few local residents wrote and shared their thoughts and concerns about the amount of litter on the roads in Marion County:
“I believe throwing trash on the floor is a learned behavior. Some acquaintances I know buy lotto tickets, snacks, etc. and throw losers and wrappers straight out of car windows and onto the floor when they leave a business, and do so openly. I am still shocked because they throw their children and grandchildren in front of me. This seems to be a learned behavior and education is needed; maybe more TV commercials, classroom talk and corporate enforcement could keep some litter out of our streets,” says Dunnellon resident Diane White.
“Please keep garbage and maintenance as an important discussion. We are protesting the toll highway expansion. We should be protesting maintenance in our city and county now. We must worry more and talk, complain less,” says Ocala resident Susie Blanchard.
“I live in the Ocala National Forest and I see trash on the side of the road and that has to change, or whoever’s running Ocala has to do something or resign. I would be happy to run for office and make a serious change for the better,” says Silver Springs resident Ted Heiman.
