THE NEW RECYCLING PROGRAM IS MANDATORY STATEWIDE BY LAW IN AN EFFORT TO REDUCE METHANE EMISSIONS BY LIMITING WHAT GOES TO LANDFILLS HERE IN SACRAMENTO, IT STARTS FOR RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS ON JUNE 1ST. OH, I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS SO SOON. WILL THERE BE A SEPARATE CONTAINER FOR THIS? THE CITY SAYS ORGANIC FOOD WASTE WILL BE IN THE KIND BIN WITH GARDEN WASTE. SO AS OF LAST MONTH, RATES ARE RISING TO 14 DOLLARS AND 32 CENTS. ONE MONTH FOR OWNERS PAYING FOR THIS GARDEN WASTE COLLECTION FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT ALREADY HAVE THIS SERVICE. Organic food waste must be deposited in the green bins of the city. This includes leftover fruits and vegetables, eggs, meat, bones, and food-soiled paper such as pizza boxes, coffee filters, and napkins. The new recycling program is required by law statewide in an effort to reduce methane emissions by limiting landfills. Starting last month, rates increased to $14.32 per month for homeowners who pay for yard waste collection. Those not currently paying for this service will receive a new monthly charge of $10.02 starting in July. The city is asking residents not to start putting organic food waste in the green bins with yard waste until July 1. , the city will need to use a more intensive process to start breaking down organic waste into compost.
