Nokian tires offers researchers and developers the opportunity to sell their tire recycling and sustainability ideas to the company’s R&D department.
Nokian Tires launches an innovation challenge to recreate the future of driving. the FAST RACE, BIG CHANGE is an open competition inviting start-ups, companies, students and academics to innovate for more sustainable tires. Finalists will be offered the unique opportunity to pitch their idea at Nokian Tires’ legendary tire testing center in white hell in Lapland – during a lap on a test track. The winner will have the chance to collaborate with R&D experts from Nokian Tires to bring their idea to life.
Finalists have a ride to change the future
In the race against climate change Nokian Tires accelerates innovation for the most durable tires again. The open competition FAST RACE, BIG CHANGE aims to find new solutions to make tires more durable. The winner of the challenge will receive a prize of €10,000 and the opportunity to explore a business or development partnership with Nokian Tyres.
From all the applicants, a group of finalists will be chosen. The final will take place on April 7 at Nokian Tires Ivalo Test Center White Hellsituated in finnish lapland, some 300 km above the Arctic Circle. Despatching a test track aboard an electric vehicle piloted by a Nokian Tires test driver, they must convince the jury of their innovation with a one-lap pitch.
Nokian Tires has set itself ambitious sustainability goals: by the end of 2030, 50% of all raw materials used in tires will be recycled or renewable, and production-related CO2 emissions will be reduced by 50% . In January 2022, Nokian Tires introduced the Nokian Tires Green Step concept tyre. It’s a masterpiece of sustainable innovation with its ambitious design made from 93% recycled or renewable materials. The concept tire has brought the company closer to the goal and the FAST RACE, BIG CHANGE challenge will help to reach the finish line.

The solution can be a new renewable or recycled material, an innovation affecting the rolling or wear resistance of the tire or a new application of digital technology: the entire product life cycle is open to innovation.
