New trash and recycling collection service set to start in Dearborn Heights – Presse et Guide

For at least a year, Dearborn Heights struggled with garbage collection and hauling under its old contract with a previous company. These issues will likely be resolved on March 21, when a new company takes over in the city.

Clinton Township-based Priority Waste was one of four companies that bid for the contract in late 2021, following the city’s decision to seek a new service provider.

After a thorough review of all companies’ capabilities and pricing, Priority’s bid was selected.

“Based on their impressive list of available equipment, favorable references, pricing and excellent customer service orientation, Priority clearly stood out among all applicants,” said Mayor Bill Bazzi. “Also, Priority was actually one of the services we contacted to provide additional debris removal service during last year’s floods. They showed very impressive abilities during the crisis – which makes us even more confident with this decision. I expect Priority to provide our residents and businesses with superior personalized service, exactly what they deserve.

Residents will see few operational changes with the new provider. A handful of routes will see some revisions, but the scope of services will essentially remain as is.

One of the biggest operational changes residents will experience is their ability to contact Priority directly to report issues such as inadvertently missed pickups, the need to repair/replace containers, etc. – what is done to streamline the communication process, and improve the action time of requests. Residents and businesses won’t need to replace the trash cans and recycling bins they currently use, as they are compatible with Priority’s amenities.

An educational pamphlet produced by Priority outlining their services is in final production and will be mailed to every residence and business in the city in the coming days.
