MPP Dan Ashton drops off recyclables.
A new recycling depot has opened in Penticton.
Residents can now drop off refundable beverage containers at a new Return-It Express & Go recycling station at the Wholesale Club Penticton at 200 Carmi Avenue.
Local MP Dan Ashton was on hand August 17 to learn about the new system and see the fully self-contained recycling station in action.
“Return-It is an essential partner in making British Columbia an environmental leader once again, helping to reduce waste and provide jobs for people across the province,” Ashton said. “The new Express & Go station will support a dynamic change in how we recycle materials into new resources in our communities and create strong jobs for Penticton.”
The station works by allowing people to deposit their unsorted prepackaged beverage containers and receive their deposit refunds by Interac e-transfer or check. There are 11 such sites across the province, including another new location in Keremeos at Buy-Low Foods.
“Our collective awareness of the importance of recycling has never been higher. British Columbians, in particular, continue to show an exceptional level of commitment to diverting materials from landfills and making responsible recycling their priority,” said Cindy Coutts, President and CEO. by Return-It.
“I am proud to have become a member of the Return-It team and look forward to applying my skills and experience in the Canadian recycling industry to continue to support and expand this province’s leadership in the domain.
Powered by solar energy, the station is housed in a brightly colored 20-foot repurposed shipping container. Customers can get their refund directly or choose to direct it to registered charities.
To use the system, first create an online account. Then bring the recyclables to the Express & Go station in sealed, clear bags, print your bag tag on them, enter the PIN code provided at registration, then, drop off and go.
The employees do the sorting and the money will be sent automatically within 10 working days.
