The Murcian town of Águilas brings its litter bins and cycle lanes into the 21st century, in line with its environmental objectives
The new bins cost the Town Hall 200,000 euros, and are in fact installed underground. The new model has a drain device that consists of a hook system that replaces the hydraulic system that caused many failures with the old system, as well as a galvanized protective coating that will prevent erosion and rust containers.
A total of 16 containers were replaced, seven of them for municipal solid waste and the rest for recycling. The first container replacement was in Calle Martínez Parra and Rey Carlos III, followed by those in Plaza de España, and now it is the turn of Juan Carlos I containers.
The local councilor for cleaning, Isabel Fernández, said in a statement that “the intention of this action is to offer a better service to the public. We opted for a model with a larger mouth than the previous ones, with the sole aim of making it easier for residents to deposit waste inside the bins.
She also took the opportunity to remind people to respect garbage disposal times and that all garbage must be placed in closed bags inside the containers. “Everyone’s collaboration is necessary for our municipality to offer a clean and neat image.
Solar street lights and sustainability
The Mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, said: “This is an action much requested by the many users of this pedestrian cycle path. With the installation of these streetlights we will complete this lane, a cycle and pedestrian path much used and requested by the citizens of Águilas and by those who visit us, and which must be completed for the use and enjoyment of all citizens. .”
This project has a budget of 220,000 euros and will equip the entire cycle path with 145 LED solar street lights, with a solar panel on the top and an integrated battery to not only save on electricity consumption, but which is also completely ecological. , contributing to the development of sustainability and environmental protection.
This is part of a larger program of the city’s push towards sustainability, which also includes measures such as their recent agreement with the Association of Traders and Industrialists of Águilas (ACIA) to reserve an additional budget of 20 000 euros for the promotion of responsible local development. consumption.
The agreement was signed yesterday by the mayor of the municipality, Mari Carmen Moreno, and the president of the local association, Dariem Caparrós, in a ceremony also attended by the mayor of the region, Ginés Desiderio Navarro.
As municipal sources said, “The City Council of Águilas and the CFIA agree on the importance of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as essential to the development of our municipality”.
They added: “In addition, we are both aware of the need for responsible local consumption, the reduction of CO2 emissions associated with the transport of goods, the promotion of zero kilometer consumption and the improvement of short distribution circuits for the integral development of our municipality. ”
