CHAMBERS COUNTY, Alabama (WTVM) – The town of Lanett, Chambers County, continues to experience trash pickup delays, causing debris to spread onto yards and roadways and causing overflowing trash cans.
The City of Lanett issued a statement on Facebook apologizing for the missed and delayed garbage pickup as residents complained about the issue.
Mayor Jamie Heard says their waste supplier, Amwaste, is experiencing staff shortages and equipment failures which have delayed garbage collection.
Heard says they’ve credited everyone for their trash fees and won’t be billed for June. Lanett resident Ophelia Whitlow says her trash hasn’t been picked up in two weeks, making the whole street smell. She says hopefully the city can fix the problem.
“And I just want to know what’s going on and why these people aren’t picking up trash when everyone else pays their trash bill monthly, and you know that’s not right. We’re really frustrated because that they can’t really give us an answer they just come when they want to come, and they jump, and the whole area and they go to an area, skip an area that’s not the way you do business “, she said.
Mayor Jamie Heard says starting this week, all litter pick-ups should be back on schedule.
