Green Tipperary: ABP Food Group presents proceeds from 2021 can recycling collections

Last Tuesday morning, representatives from ABP Food Group presented the proceeds of funds raised through the 2021 Can Recycling Drives to representatives from Cahir Tidy Towns in the Inch Field.
The collection of beverage cans over the past 12 months has resulted in the planting of semi-mature trees in the Inch field and they are clearly visible inside the fence. As a result of this project, ABP has agreed to collect another 12 months with us and provide more trees in 2022. We would like to thank the many people who have collected cans over the past year and even though they may go unnoticed, they may take great pride in what they have accomplished through their efforts.
The Suir Engineering sponsored orchard was also planted last week by transition year students Coláiste Dún Iascaigh under the guidance of Dr Tim Butler and Suir Engineering representatives Shaun Costigan and Ismay Crowley. In this initiative by Suir Engineering, the aim is to plant 1,000 orchards across the island of Ireland.
Cahir had been identified as a high rise town and was nominated for an orchard and in consultation with a local councilor and local Tidy Town activists it all came together. We hope to be able to build on this in the years to come.
