Successful applicants can receive up to £30,000 for programs that operate in the six districts of Merseyside and Halton
Funding has been made available to community and volunteer groups, schools and non-profit organizations, which can reduce household waste, encourage recycling and reuse of resources and prevent carbon emissions.
The money is part of the Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority and the Veolia Community Fund 2022/23.
Chairman of the Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority (MRWA), Councilor Tony Concepcion, said: “We know that many communities are concerned about climate change and sustainable living. Giving groups the opportunity to get involved in caring for their environment can only bring benefits to all and can help us appreciate objects as valuable resources rather than something that might otherwise just be thrown away.
Successful applicants can receive up to £30,000 for schemes that operate in the six districts of Merseyside and Halton, and between £1,000 and £8,000 for projects that operate solely at local authority level.
Tenders must address one or more of the four priority household wastes that have been identified by MRWA as key, namely food, plastics, textiles and furniture. An analysis of waste in the area showed that more of these materials could be reused or recycled. Projects can also include other household waste, eg paper, cardboard, metals.
Previous Community Fund projects have included local recycling guides, cooking clubs to improve people’s diets and reduce food waste, fruit and vegetable picking, restoring old furniture to sell for charity, and refurbishment of unwanted carpets for resale. In November last year, a project held a mock COP26 conference on climate change with schoolchildren across the Liverpool City area to help highlight wasted clothing and textiles.
The deadline for submission is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
Successful projects are expected to receive funding by mid-May 2022 and will have ten months to deliver their projects by March 2023.
