Cities, counties publish public holiday closing times, garbage collection reminders

SOUTHEAST, NC (WECT) – While enjoying the holiday festivities, people should be aware that some services will be affected by the Thanksgiving holiday. Check back for updates.

City of Wilmington

Customers who receive recycling and garbage services on Thursday will be serviced on Wednesday, November 24. The service includes garbage, recycling (green week), garden waste and bulky items.

Bulky items for Friday November 26 or Monday November 29 must be scheduled by 4 p.m. Wednesday November 24.

All materials to be collected must be placed by the curb the day before collection, as teams can arrive early in the morning.

City offices and facilities will be closed from Thursday, November 25 to Saturday, November 27. The offices will reopen on Monday, November 29.

Brunswick County

Brunswick County Solid Waste and Recycling Division will operate on the following adjusted schedule:

Customers with a Thursday pickup day will not have a pickup on Thursday, November 25, but must place their carts curbside on Saturday, November 27 at 6 a.m. for pickup.

Those with a Friday, curbside collection day will have a normal collection service as usual; however, carts must be curbside at 6 a.m. to ensure collection.

The Brunswick County landfill will be closed on Thursday, November 25 and reopen on a regular schedule on Friday, November 26.

Pender County

All Pender County garbage and recycling collection sites and the transfer station will close early Wednesday, November 24 at 3 p.m. and will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 25.

Government offices will be closed from Wednesday November 24 to Friday November 26 and will resume normal hours on Monday November 29.
