The individual named by Mayor Michael Rama as the owner of the waste management facility that caused the foul stench in Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, has cried foul over the mayor’s allegations and demanded an apology at most senior official.
Emma Ramas told SunStar Cebu on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 that her company Bio-Nutrient Waste Management Inc. is no longer involved in any operations in Inayawan.
On Monday, the mayor issued a cease and desist (CDO) order against Ramas’ company after the Cebu City Department of Utilities discovered the establishment was the source of the smell foul smell that had been causing discomfort to residents for more than a week already.
However, Ramas said his company no longer manages operations since the city government did not award a contract to “save the city’s bio-waste”.
According to Ramas, Bio-Nutrient began operations in 2014 and concluded them in December 2020.
Ramas revealed that the one currently operating there is a company called Jomara Konstrukt Corp.
The CDO should be given to Jomara and the mayor should apologize to Bio-Nutrient, Ramas said.
“Maybe the mayor should call the CDO back and issue one to Jomara with an apology to Bio-Nutrient,” Ramas said.
According to Ramas, Jomara Konstrukt was hired by the city to collect the city’s garbage and dispose of it at the Inayawan landfill.
Ramas admitted that she had previously partnered with Jomara, but various technologies were used to ensure that no foul smells would come out of the facility.
In response, Mayor Rama said he would have the matter verified and that the cease and desist order would be served on Jomara Konstrukt Corp. after validation.
SunStar Cebu has contacted Jomara, but at press time management had not commented.
